DILI, Timor-Leste - The U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, and the Timor-Leste Defense Forces (F-FDTL) will take part in Exercise Crocodilo 2012, beginning Oct. 10.

Throughout the seven-day exercise, U.S. and Timorese forces will work together on training and community activities aimed at strengthening relations between the two nations and building capability to operate jointly.

U.S. Forces and F-FDTL soldiers will focus on topics such as military police training, small boat handling, jungle warfare, aviation and specific planning scenarios.

“These training programs provide opportunities to share knowledge, establish personal and professional relationships, and strengthen our military and civil partnership with Timor-Leste,” said United States Ambassador to Timor-Leste Judith R. Fergin. “Additionally, joint exercises such as Crocodilo 2012 improve Pacific security, which is an interest that Timor-Leste, the United States, and neighbors in the region share.”

To strengthen partnerships with local communities, Exercise Crocodilo also offers medical and dental assistance to Timorese citizens. Teams will also collaborate on construction and rehabilitation projects. Exercise Crocodilo activities will take place in Dili, Metinaro, Manatutu, Hera, Liquica, and Baucau.

The U.S. Navy is bringing three ships to Timor-Leste for this exercise: USS Peleliu, USS Rushmore, and USS Green Bay.
